Fun and Interactive Family Photos in Hartford, CT

Hartford along with the rest of CT offers incredible landscapes and spaces for family photography. My photo shoots are designed with play and collaboration in mind to capture authentic moments between you and your family. I will guide you throughout your session, rather than pose you. I want you to leave with photos that feel like you, nobody likes stiff portraits anyway! About a week after, I’ll then deliver your online gallery with pictures perfect for your living room wall, family album, your desk at work, and even your wallet.

What to wear for your Family Photo Session

Think about the big picture when selecting outfits for your family. I good idea to start with is to consider what time of the year your session is, and where in your home you plan on displaying your photo. If you have a brightly colored wall in mind for your print, maybe it is a good idea to consider wearing neutral colors so that the colors aren’t competing. If your walls are muted, then wearing some colors might make your image pop more. Speaking of colors, some colors work really well together and some, do not as much. Navy works exceptionally well with fall colors as it creates a wonderful contrast against yellows, oranges, and reds. Wearing a lot of reds in the middle of summer when everything is green might accidentally make the pictures look like holiday photos.

In addition to finding colors that work well together, think about adding textures and patterns (think one plaid shirt, one striped skirt, and a polka dot t-shirt.) We’re not looking to match completely and to have everyone wear yellow! But to have a cohesive look that still champions each individual.

Here are a few color combinations.

Red, gray, and navy color combination

Red, gray, and navy are classic. You can also swap out the gray for white or beige and achieve a similar look. This color combination works in all seasons

Pink, Beige and Green color picker

Pink and green are complementary colors that provide a nice contrast. Here we add beige to tone it down just a touch. This one will work nicely in spring and summer.

Mustard, Navy, and Burnt orage combination

Mustard, navy, and burnt orange is another perfect combination for a fall photo session.

Brown, White, And Burgundy colors

Light brown, white, and burgundy is a lovely combination for a fall photo shoot.

What to avoid?

  1. Black. You can totally include some blacks in your outfits, but it should be really considered and kept to a minimum.

  2. Too many plaid garments. Patterns should add some pop to the overall look but not take over.

  3. Matching sibling outfits. It can look cute in a group shot, but not as great when it’s just the two of them.
